Green Bullet Volume Control

I?ve got a Green Bullet (Shur Model #520D) but it
doesn?t have a volume control. Seems like you could
either drill out the stand mount and put in a volume
control or splice something in line. Has anyone done
that or have recommendations on how to go about it? 
Or is it just a dumb idea and not worth the trouble?
