Re: Major Pentatonic (was Allman Bros.)

Hey y'all,

as some of you may know i'm not an expert on music theory, but, according
to the majority of info i've found (jazclass.aust.com/scamap.htm is a
helpful site) a major pentatonic scale consists of "five different notes...
the 1-2-3-5-6 of the major scale... in other words, a major scale without
the 4th and 7th notes... this eliminates the two semitones present in the
major scale."
   the A major pentatonic scale is therefore A B C# E F# A. i suppose there
are multiple ways to make a major pentatonic scale, but this seems to be the
one commonly known as "the" major pentatonic. at least in this part of the
west. i did find one mention (http://www.winged-horse.com/lostmus.htm ) of
an "irish pentatonic scale," and it is the same as the one above.
interestingly, the same article notes that before the 16th? century, the
major pentatonic scale dominant in Europe did, in fact, omit the 3rd instead
of the 4th. i guess things have changed?
