Vintage JT-30

I have been playing through a JT-30 that actually has the original working
crystal element. It sounds very cool but the signal is much weaker than with
a "modern era" JT-30.

With the modern JT-30 I set the volume on my little practice amp to 5. With
the vintage JT-30 I have to set the volume to 9 to get the same level.

I'm not really complaining... just wondering. Is this normal?
