I have a new technique: I introduce a slight arc in the reed by
holding the tip up with a small tool while pushing down with a
fingernail very close to the back of the slot (rivet end of the
reed). This pushes a lot of the reed down into the slot while
keeping the tip up for proper gap.
Prior to using this technique I would always close gaps by pushing
down on the reed close to the rivet end, and open gaps by pushing up
close to the tip. It achieves a similar effect.
