There's a correlation between defined music styles and loudness IMO (no =
doubt someone's done a thesis on this). This is very general, but a =
blues musician will have an appreciation of volume dynamics as an =
intergral part of the (blues) music. Now, my understanding of rock is =
its supposed to be loud. Its in your face! Thats the 'style'.=20

Loudness has a place, but prolonged loudness is not =
healthy......everything in moderation.

Personally, i like to play at a general volume where the audience can =
still converse, so its more enjoyable for everyone.....and play louder =
if needed.

I wonder, with all the music institutions, courses, workshops, books =
etc, how many music students actually learn about quiet and silence? =20

And yes, and it's difficult to retrain rock musicians.=20
I think that if you've got a rock drummer and rock bass player in the =
same band.....then better not to fight it.....play rock. Or, as was =
suggested earlier..... pack up and go have a beer!

  Hey all,=20

The hardest thing to do is to convince rock bass and rock =
drummers that they are now in a blues band, and in order to get "that" =
sound they HAVE to turn down. As well as adjusting to a number of other =
issues. But volumne is right up there.=20

                                                 Stay loose,=20
