Hi Roger:
I recall hearing a 'talking blues' by either Johnny Shines or Robert Lockwood or Robert Nighthawk about
hanging out and playing house parties with Robert Johnson because Robert had an eye for his mother (must be Johnny).
They ended up going across the county line to the next town to play and got arrested for vagrancy and
thrown in jail for 4 or 6 weeks. They started playing out the window and passers by started throwing
loose change. The jailer would go out and collect it and cut them a share. They ended up getting
rented out by the sheriff to local house parties and by the end of their sentence they were eating all
their meals at the restaurant down the street and women and liquor were being brought into their cell for
over night parties. They were released with over a $1000 dollars each. Never said how much the jailers
made!
Don't know how much of this was really true and nothing was mentioned about recording and it certainly
didn't sound much like 'hard time' in prison to me, but it's an amusing listen.
Anyone familiar with this recording?
