I've never heard of Robert Johnson spending any length of time or recording in prison (except maybe an occasional over night stay in a local lockup for drunkenness or vagrancy maybe possible.) Sounds like your prof is possibly confused with Bukka White or Leadbelly whom were both known to have spent some time and recorded in state
penitentiaries.
