How old are your Special 20s? Up until about the 2000 manufacture stamp,
Special 20s were made with nickel plated covers. At that time they switched to
chrome plating, which doesn't discolor nearly as badly. The nickel tends to
turn black when it comes in contact with body fluids (oil, saliva), whereas the
chrome seems to exhibit a little bit of blueing, but not nearly as severe. Lee
Oskars are stainless steel, which is different altogether, and seems to resist
tarnishing the best of the three finishes.
