What about song writing?

Dave said,
<I'd like to add my view to this, that as far as

<dont count towards what is a good song or

<lyrics in songs is for their pitch, tone
<and rhythm - I see vocal parts as merely
<another instrument in a band and
<very rarely pay attention to the words
<themselves or their meaning. I dont
<know why I think like this, but I always
<have - I guess it's down to my
<cynical views and the fact that
<about 80% of lyrics written are cliched
<nonsense!

<I've had this discussion on many occasions
<and with many people - but I dont
<think I've found anyone else who shares
<my views so I thought I'd try you
<guys!!

Dave,

All I can tell you is that my wife shares your view.
It's not that she doesn't like lyrics- she just
doesn't pay them much mind [maybe like I don't much
care what the 2nd guitar is doing]. Funny thing is; we
like the same stuff- though I liked much of it FOR the
lyrics. Go figure. Anyway, you're not alone. I've
worked for producers who asked me to write ~text~ to
songs and really didn't care what I wrote. More than
once the third verse became a repeated first verse. It
was filler to them and I confess i don't know what
harm it did [though, at them time I argues that the
song had no ending and made no sense].
