Re: what is the blues
I think the blues is different to everyone! But to everyone it is an
expression. Here is what I think the blues is.
I've been playing blues for a long time now and unlike most "styles" it is
far different. In most styles an artist will study that style and try to
create something that fits in that genera. With blues it is the opposite. I
take all my experience over the years, and use that to express myself. When
I sit-in with a rock n' roll band or something besides the blues I find
myself searching for the correct notes that fit within that song, with blues
the notes are already there and it relies more on my phrasing and
expression. As far as it goes, this really was answered years ago. "BLUES IS
A FELLING". Nothing is comparable to a good gig as a blues musician! I think
that's why most blues musicians remain in the blues even thought the pay
isn't right sometimes. Some people have something deep inside them that
don't make it music anymore.. it becomes a life. I get a lot of CD's in for
review for my website and I will say that we have some GREAT blues players
around today. Proof that blues sees no color or age! I personally believe
that this decade will/does have the best blues musicians in history. And yet
no one has ever even heard of them, lol.
This would be a great thread on the blues-l list (I been a member for
several years now). Check out
