Next Step (TV)
Howdy, Harpers!
Did anyone see last night's installment of Discovery Channel's show called
"The Next Step"? There was a short piece about new innovations in musical
instruments, including our lowly yet exalted harmonica. The camera panned
a table (very fast, as usual in these things) with several new-to-be harps
on it and a fellow was asked to quickly discuss and demonstrate a new harp
that looked like Hohner was imprinted on it's molded black body. The guy
said it was a chromatic scale instrument that was really two harmonicas in
one unit, which didn't explain much, but he was talking to the interviewer
for the show, not one of "our" guys! (Too bad ;-)
The segment focused primarily on electronic musical devices and instruments.
There was nothing I saw harp-related. There was a nifty "virtual music
machine." It was basically a keyboard synth or wavestation combined with
a headworn mic to deliver human imput for sampling, alteration, etc. Too
cool! They also talked about the return of all tube head amps like the
Russian Sovtek amps that are apparently coveted by rock 'n roll purists.
Anyone know anything about those black-bodied harps?
Till next,
