I disagree. The standard Marine Band 14 holes are great for 3rd posistion
minor mode work. From the 3rd hole up their tuning is virtually
identical to a chromatic's. Meaning of course that it resembles the solo
tuning not that it has any true chromatic abilities for the non over
blowers or non valvers. BTW This harmonica in C is one of the few
harmonicas I've ever bothered to valve a note on. Hole 7 has a C over a
B and the damn thing chokes very easily due to the close relationship of
the tuning of the two notes. Valve one note and it's fixed. Winslow
Yerxa alos talks of the merits of the 365 series tunings in HIP one of
the earlier issues. They are weird and not what you'd expect. Certainly
the SBS is much more apparent right out of the box but the 365 tunings do
deserve a look too. FJM
