Coincidentally, Mike Curtis just wrote an informative note about positions. You
may also wish to check out the definition of MODE in a musical encyclopedia or
basic theory text--words have existed for centuries to describe harp positions,
and you can learn a lot by plunking on a piano, white keys only, starting scales
on different keys. Dm on a C harp is dorian mode, crossharp is myxolydian. I
really like lydian (F on a C), phrygian (Em on a C) and lots of others, and
like Mike says, each imparts a distinctive flavor to your solos and accompani-
ment.
