Yes, these two lists are located at the HarmoniGopher and should also be
good sources for, or references to aid in finding, specific recorded harp
materials. Some of the recording providers listed in Kim Field's post
are listed there, also. The emphasis of the list I had in mind would be,
primarily, on suppliers or distributors of venerable old recordings which
have been reissued, as well as more current selections. So, in addition
to shops and retailers, I would include certain record label companies,
some of which offer catalogs, for instance:
Arhoolie Records
Box 9l95
Berkeley, CA 94709
Arhoolie purchased SBWII's early recordings (Trumpet label) and reissued
them. [At least, his widow received royalties from sales.] A catalog is
offered of "over 160 Blues, Folk and Jazz LPs," for 50 cents.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Delmark Records
4243 North Lincoln
Chicago, Ill. 60618
Free catalog of jazz and blues. Artists include: Jr. Walker, Magic Sam,
Carey Bell.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Obviously, such a list could get long and too involved for this forum's
purposes [especially as companies rise and fall, change hands, etc., in
such a competitive environment.] I just thought it could be a useful
aid to reduce the time spent scouring music stores in futile search for
obscure, rare or less currently popular harmonica recordings.
Till next,
