Compression

John Santana asks about>> flapping<< (Re me on compression)

Yup, flapping means putting wind savers on. Up at the top of the instrument I
just use a single thickness paper from a lower (mid range) flap. Works OK. If
the reeds are set right, and that is where the Hohner people seem to excel, the
sound can swell from literally nothing with no apparent start to a really very
big sound, wonderful response. It pays to spend a little time in shaving the
size of the flap to a minimum, the less surface in contact with the plate the
less the things stick.
