An AP wire story caught my eye today.  Anyone heard of the Distributed
Real-Time Groove Network begun by a couple of guys at Northwestern U.?
It's an Internet hookup that allows musicians to come together in a kind
of on-line jam.  The musicians play instruments they choose from displays
on their computer screens on synthesized instruments or computers with 
synthesizer capability, and a speaker plays back the combined sounds.
There is no on-line "improvization", however, as the music is worked out
off-line then added to the mix.  An address for more information is:
