Les Paul
Another harp curiosity has appeared in the June 6 International Herald
Tribune, again in the well-known back-page feature slot. Les Paul,
who turns 80 today, is featured. What's interesting is the
accompanying photograph: in the background is a huge photograph of
Les at age 15, with his guitar -- and a tremolo harmonica in a rack;
in the foreground is the 80-year-old Les with a guitar and what looks
like the same tremolo, again in a rack. Does anyone know if Les ever
achieved any fame playing harp? The Gibson guitar company,
incidentally, plans a TV special on Les sometime this fall. Maybe it
will contain some footage of Les playing harp.
