Your whole message was well-said.  To add just a curious side note: Some 
singers have developed a sound that varies the amplitude much more than 
the pitch.  Singers do call this tremolo.  This does not change your 
above satement which says *naturally modulates* and the tremolo is a kind 
of sound that comes from poor training or bad practice techniques and is 
generally considered undesirable.  It's an *un-natural modulation* of the 
voice.
