Since I posted the message referenced above, I've received a number of very
kind personal messages that have reminded me what a great list this is.

I regard the members of this list as friends.  Just like the rest of my
friends, Harp-L'ers represent a broad range of personalities.  There are
indeed some very strong personalities on the list, and that is the source
of much of the list's value.

There is a fine but easily identified line between "strongly emphasized"
and "rude."  The difference is usually in the understanding that a real
person lives behind each post.   Having said that, I have seen very few
genuinely rude posts to this list.

Lately some of us (myself included) have been a bit sensitive (perhaps
we've all been sucking a little too hard on old reeds?).  Looking back over
recent posts, however, I can't really find the reason.  I honestly sense
that the overwhelming majority of list members appreciate and respect each
other. As a forum for intelligent discussion, Harp-L will sometimes be a
home to strong opinions and vehement disagreement.  For my part, I like it
that way.

Anyway, I feel that the slats on my soapbox are about to break.  Hope this
rambling message finds each of you well.
