Polishing reeds

Steve writes of a harmonica with hand-polished reeds belonging to Douglas,
that was
played for 25 years with no breakage.  While some good players rarely break
reeds
even while playing loudly, this instrument may indicate that a closer look at
reed
polishing be taken.  Douglas, can you tell me anything more about this
harmonica?
Model, how old, by what means and by whom the reeds were polished?
