Popper

>Lots of previous stuff about Popper

Popper has actually done what none of those mentioned in earlier posts (and
many others) have done. He has elevated the harmonica to a primary lead
instrument for a ~rock~ band (especially in an era that is completely
dominated by electric guitar -- I should know since I play one of them, too).
Any other band/artist I have ever heard to use the harp as extensively as
Popper does was a ~blues~ band. Although BT has the word 'blues' in their
name, I'd hardly call them a blues band.

Popper admitted publically (New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival interview)
that he is a technical musician and doesn't see himself as a very creative
musician. He feels that this aspect of himself is balanced by other members
of his band (notably Chan Kinchla) who were not formally trained, but are
very creative musically.

BTW, anyone ever see Popper up close when he does a trill? He switches hands
on the mike/harp and moves the harp in an almost circular motion while
keeping his head still. This seemed to me to be an unusual (to say nothing
of inefficient) way to do a trill, especially coming from someone as
technically proficient as Popper.
