Boring folklore follows. I have heard that there was an Irish melodeon
player in New York who had his hands seriously damaged by a leather
beating machine in the shoe factory where he worked. He couldn't play
melodeon any more and took up harmonica. Anyhow, he mounted his harps
in a small barrel yoke and was able to hold that between what was left
of his hands. It also meant he could change keys by just turning the
barrel.

So now you know.
