mic&amp

Here's a follow up on my experiments after Mike corrected
my post two days. Right (thanks Mike), when the volume is
max on the JT-30V the signal from the crystal sees the full
value of the pot to ground (my pot is 500 Kohm). If you have a
capacitor "across" this pot (from the signal side to the wiper)
then at max volume this cap is shorted and thus has no effect.
It is there to pass the high frequencies when the volume is not
at max. Anyhow I disconnected the grounded side of the pot and
AB'd the mic with and without the 500K to gnd and could not hear
a difference playing into a 65 Princeton Reverb with vol just
below feedback. Then I plugged the mic cord into the voltage
follower preamp that I made and tried the same AB... no difference.
So it seems to me that a 500kohm volume pot on max has a negligible
effect on the tone or output of this mic. I did, however, AB my
10ft. and 20ft. cables again. Last time I said I couldn't hear
a difference but I'm going to rescind that observation and say
that the mic sounds hotter with the shorter cable. This is
noticeable by setting the amp close to feedback with the long cable
and then switching to the short one. Incidently, I have tried
a seven band graphic equalizer (stomp box) to get rid of some
feedback, but what I had to filter out was just what I liked most
about the tone so I gave up on that.
