Re: Anon Servers.
Hi all,
I don't think we should ban anon posts at all.
Tut, tut. Tim come on now, paranoia? I don't see that a post like this is
a problem. Yes I know some groups have banned anon posts, but listen to
MY tale.............
I have friends whith whom I share some racy stuff, one lady especially.
Now, My sys op. has this nice habit of reading all the email (well
sampling it) and then lets you know in subtle, unprovable ways.
ie. He sent me a bit of my email back (over one month later after the post
date) saying, "Gordon, here is the mail that you were trying to send when
the server fell over".
Fine, *except*..
A) It was posted and recived suscessfully by the addressee.
B) It was over four weeks later that he decided to send it back to me.
C) It happened to start woth a *very* hot quote from the Lady concerned.
He has let other staff know that he knows what is in our file space.
He even told a friend of mine here at weork, that he knew what was in
mine!!!!!!!
I tried to get anon servive from anon.soda, but my server does not know
how to get to it.
I toyed with the idea of PGP encription, (that would fox the B*******D)
but I work from an Atari so its not possoble (I don't think).
Anyway, I am not a great computer buff, and it looked complex to set up.
My lady friend in the USA has set me an account up on a site over there.
I send some of my posts from there, but it it SO SLOW! I can have it hang
up for 5 to 20 mins at a time. Not good when you are in a text editor.:(
I know anon poster's have got a bad name, due to some folk missusing the
service (for anon hate mail, for those who don't know).
All I can say, is I could do with keeping my job, and many others I have
met are in similar situations as myself. (RE: snoopy sys ops)
The hard part is to convince new users that there is no such thing as
computer privacy. The USA Wire Tap law has just re-enforced that in
many folks minds. All would be anon users are not bad!
So if it comes to a vote about this.......
I vote let them post to us from anon.
(And reply to them) If someone proves to be a problem, a note from Chris P.
to the anon site sys op will soon sort it out! The anon sys op's are very
concerned about missuse of the service. They respond very quickly to
reports about it!
