Re: Mic problem

<stuff about JT30 plugged into low-Z PA>

If you run a JT30 through the PA, you either need to run it into a high
impedance input, or use a matching transformer. These often come in the
form of an adaptor from 1/4" to XLR. While Radio shack carries these, my
Shure has better sound, and comes with several different adaptors for
matching pretty much anything you might come across. Of course, it's
PRICED like a Shure, too :-)

Impedance - the simple explanation:

Think of impedance as being like your car at different speeds. when
you're at a dead stop, you don't use 4th gear and overdrive. When you're
doing 80 mph heading for Lost Wages, you don't use low gear. But in
either case, your engine still generates the same horsepower (more or
less.) From a dead stop, you need high torque at low speed. At 80, you
need speed at low torque.

You won't "hurt" the mic by running it into the wrong impedance, but you
WILL adversely affect its sound by running it into too low an impedance.

Hint: if you run your JT30 into a high impedance effects pedal such as
digital delay, etc., the output can be run into either high or low
impedance with no ill effects. Most modern pedals have a 1 megohm or
better input impedance.
