I have been experiencing with this whole thing and from your original 
diagram all I was getting from the pot was on or off. I guess that by 
bypassing the hot wire into the mic through the cap when the pot gives more 
resistance or impedance, the current flows through the cap. Perhaps I didn't 
understand this whole thing, but it seems that the pot wouldn'T work 
properly the way the diagram was. I tried to wire the cap into the pot and 
it worked, but I lost gain in the mic. I ended up wiring the pot without a 
cap and I still lost gain. I don't know anymore. Guess I'll have to run more 
tests.
