Re: breathing control
I don't mean to depress y'all, but the Big Walter's harp playing
in the Blues Brothers wasn't what it appeared. According to
Dick Shurman, Little Joe Berson was overdubbed. Bummed
me out when I first read it. So you aren't hearing who (or what)
you're seeing.
I had seen Joe Berson a few times and I don't think he smoked
while he played.
Have a nice weekend,
Joe

Quitting smoking also helps (if you smoke). Although I've met and know
some fantastic players who smoke like chimneys (and drink like fish!),
but they have been playing for decades. The scene in The Blues Brothers
with John Lee Hooker is my favorite scene in that movie because Big
Walter is playing harp in it. He's smoking a cigarette while playing!

ps - you know your bandleader is cool if he gives you a "Harp Attack"
t-shirt - mine gave me one yesterday!
