Help Wanted
WE NEED YOUR HELP ... The Cardinal state (Virginia) Harmonica Club has taken
on a project to help persons with Parkinsons Disease to breathe better and
strengthen their lungs by using the Harmonica. As we know, the Harmonica is
the only instrument that uses both cycles of respiration in playing a tune.
Weak lungs and depression are two problems associated with Parkinsons
Disease. While trying to play the Harmonica is not a cure for their
problems, it does offer the patient something that they can do to help fight
depression, after all, music is fun. It will also give the person a safe way
to expel air and take deeper breaths. AmoCares, an Amoco annuit program in
Yorktown and the Tidewater Chapter of the General Electric Elfun Society have
taken of this project with the Hohner Harmonica Company to help provide
assistance with the Hohner's Rainbow beginners program. Books, harps, and a
video tape are available thru the Hohner company at the following address:

Cost-- Book & Harmonica---$5.25 This is a special price for this program.
Harmonica players can help by attending a Parkinsons Support Group meeting
and assisting patients in breathing techniques or showing them how to play
the Harmonica. If you have any questions, contact Buddy Wakefield at
(804)874-9462 or Keith Potter at (804)427-0725.
There are Parkinsons support groups in most large cities. Check your local
hospital or Health department for the locations and meeting times. Lets
bring a little sunshine into some lives that can really use it. Thanks
