Re: Chromatic Tuners

I use a Seiko ST1000 Chromatic Auto Tuner. It's adjustable from 437 on
up through 445. It has a tone generator that also is variable. 7 octave
range for both tones and readings. It has a 100 cent analog scale .
+or- 50 cents with 10 cent resolution. It s auto locating so you don't
have to know what the note is supposed to be. It's small enough to carry
around but also has an easily read scale. It also has over and unde
indicators if you don't want to use the analog needle. The needle is
weighted so it's not too fast or too slow. You get an indication of the
octave you're at. Goes from +3 to -3. Youu can use the 1/4" in or the
mic. It also has an output if you want to leave it plugged in while
you're playing. (this being a guitar player feature) It seems to be
pretty reasonable on battery life compared to other tuners. Most notably
Korgs. Seikos are available deep discount if you hunt around mailorder.

My guitar players are always trying to swipe my tuner at gigs. Mines
easier to read than theirs. Why take the tuner to gigs? I don't trust
other peoples tuners so if someone sounds out I make them retune using
mine. Another reason is that about 3 songs before a reed totally cracks
in half they start to subtly drop in pitch. When i hear it happen by ear
I always talk myself out of it. If I check it with the tuner I believe
it and swap the plate or use a different harmonica for the rest of the
night. Savs embarassing moments. FJM
