Another thought on this mystery capacitor (at least pending
determination of its value):  if it's a relatively small value
(in the order of .001mf) it would have no appreciable effect on
audio frequencies at all, and may simply be in there to short out
any radio frequency signals the mike element might be prone to
pick up and send down the line to the amp for possible
demodulation and amplification (causing your local radio station
to compete with your harp).  In the legacy of radio taxi and PA
mikes, this may have been an important artifact that remains
harmlessly in mikes sold primarily for music.  B*
