Tongue blocking

Hi
I am learning to tongue-block and I find the underside of my
lips hurt after playing for about 15 minutes. It almost seems
like there is a bit of flesh that either chafes against the
edge of the harp or sometimes gets pinched or squeezed as I go
back and forth. Is this a problem with my technique, do I need
to file the harp edges or is it simply something about my anatomy!
A related question is whether you experienced players out there
have any rule of thumb as to which hole to switch from playing out of
the right or left of the tongue block - naturally I don't think
anyone plays hole 1 out of the right, but I find myself going the
wrong way halfway through a solo sometimes! I suppose this is tied
to the melody one is playing and one has to sort of figure out in
advance which side of the block one is going to use ??
Thanks
Shankar.
