Re: Amps and Mics and Stuff
I recommend that you go for an amp with 10" speakers. They tend to feed
back less. I'm sure the Blues Deville rig with the 10s is okay, but you
could save some $ and buy an old Princeton and put a mic on it. I have a
mess of amps including a 4X10" Bassman and the Princeton is the rig I
use. A Tremolux with 2x10" cabinet is a great sounding rig too. The reason
I recommend smaller amps is that you can play them at the volume where you
do get the "overdrive" sound that you want without blasting your buddies off
the stage or the audience out of the club. I got an amp stand so the harp hits
me in the side of the head. (That's why the left side of my head is flat.) I then
put a microphone on the Princeton and run it out the PA system.
As for microphones, I thought the Blues Blaster was the same as the new Astatic JT-30s.
I prefer old Green Bullets or JT-30s. Check ham radio swap meets. Also, there are
a whole lot of old microphones that sound good. (and some new ones too) The
point is that you don't know until you plug in and play. Sometimes you have to take
a chance and spend $20 on a hunch. I haven't been disappointed yet.
