re: Sugar Blues weapon of choice

"zip zip" is a generic term that was invented somewhere along the line
in the early days of the Norman Ives/David Michelsen HarpStart
project, in which I had a close involvement. It applies to *all* the
instruments that are laid out chromatically on "every hole is one
semitone higher basis" - we used this as a friendly way to introduce
disadvantaged (or should that be "less advantaged" or even "differently
vantaged" <g>) kids to using these instruments - you blow and move the
instrument across your face, and it sounds like a zip being done up (or
down).
As for the specific model, it looks like a 262 Chromatica to me (i.e.
the all blow model). As far as I can recall (and I can't find the
relevant catalogues at the minute) the Polyphonia was a different beast
altogether - namely an all blow, triple decked chord instrument. Jack
or George will correct me on this, but I believe that this chord
instrument was the only Hohner instrument to bear the name Polyphonia
- (Polyphonia VIII in full - and maybe th Vinetta used to be a
Polyphonia something else?)
I can't hear it being played on the album, but it makes for a good
picture, doesn't it??
