As George pointed out, direct line out is usually better than a mic.
However, a lot of "vintage" amps as beloved by harp players don't have line
outs.
Almost all harp and guitar players I know who don't have megabucks to spend
use Sure SM57's to mike their amps. I usually place mine about an inch or
so from the grill, offset a few inches from the centre of (one of) the
speaker cone(s).
You can pick up a 57 mail order for around $90.
As for the PA end of things, I've usually found that you EQ a harp about
the same as vocals. I also grease the sound up a bit with a tiny bit of
slapback echo and a touch of reverb (unless I'm using an amp with built in
reverb).
