FAT HIPS
TO: internet:harp-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks to those who gave the HIP address on the list. However,
please note that HIP is $30, not $40, in North America. Overseas,
it's $40 surface mail, or $51 by air. It's pricey, but not THAT
expensive.
As far as fat tone and harmonics go, yes the hands can do a lot.
Older chromatic players like Eddy Manson talk about this a lot.
however, as Howard Levy demonstrated on the ultrasound video, you
can change the overtone profile of a note simply by moving your
tongue forward and backward in your mouth. Probably the reason
tongue blocking produces a good tone is that it forces the tongue
into a good position for creating a desirable overtone profile.
This is one thing Johno can't measure with his blowing machine,
unless he could construct a working model.
