Is that a word, airtightness? Oh well. Some of the airleakage on a Marine
Band comes from the cover not fitting properly. But a lot of it comes from
the gaps between the comb and the reedplate as well. The more moisture
trapped in the wood comb, the more likely it is to warp, every so slightly,
but enough to create an air leak. You can still blow harp with no covers,
but it gets tough when you lose air between the reedplate and the comb.
