re SBS
randy
You can just retune 14 hole marine band to an SBS. Hohnner only
touches up the tuning of the reeds by hand. The reeds that are fitted
to the plate have been machined to a specific profile so that they
are virtually in tune from the start. This means that to make a batch
of SBSs they need to stop a production line and set up with different
reed blanks. This would cause quite a lot of (difficult to cost)
production planning and scheduling costs. I can just imagine the
amount of resistance Steve would have met at hohner to the idea of
adding a new variant to their range. Therefore we are sort of paying
hohner for the *inconvenience* value. Its not a simple issue of
costing labour. I concur that Steve is a good bloke - totally
dedicated to the harp. (not suggesting any flame was intended)
