Re: Shopping for my First Chromatic

Dear 76450.3230:

Adjusting the pitch of every note of a tuba is not as easy as pulling the
tuning main tuning slide. Each valve is has a length of tubing which is
proportional to the length of the instrument. My tuba being a CC tuba is
approx. 17 feet whereas a BBb tuba is approx. 18 feet. To change the pitch
of every note would require pulling all of the slides. In addition, when
more than one valve is being depresed, it is naturally required that the
musician pull one of the slides in order to tune the valve combination.
It is hard enough to play in ensembles where the pitch is unsettled, but
to have a pitch competition with the guy next to you is the pits.
