If you know very little about blues or harmonica, you might consider David
Harp's "Instant Blues Harmonica". You will likely grow out of it very quickly
but it has the advantage of being very basic and respectful of beginners. He
plays very simple stuff on the tape (comes with a boook, tape and harp) so it
all seems very attainable. I used this package myself.
I agree that you make huge leaps as a beginner that are hard to achieve later
on.
It's also worth pointing out that once you know how to play, it is very hard
to assess beginner materials. So, I would encourage anyone who's been a
beginner to tell us how they got started.
