Sorry I don't know *anything* about this. I did not even know
that it was legal in the States!
Please, by trading do you mean "I swap x recording of mine for y recording
of yours"?
If so I can not see how "the not for cash" rule can be enforced at all.

As yet, I don't know.

In the U.K. at *Folk Gigs* only, taping seems to be accepted O.K.
As far as I'm aware, its only done for the persons own listening later.
Not alowed at rock gigs though. It still goes on however, but then its
called "bootleging" and could get the offender into big trouble with
the law, or even beaten up by heavies.
The sound engineers often tape gigs, (I've seen them do it) but I *think*
it is so the artist can maybe use it later if its a good live gig.
I have never seen one of these guys sell a tape, or even give one away.
At some festivals I know the engineers (not this one though) and I have
never got a copy of the gig.
Really I'm afraid I have not been of any help, sorry.
Its wierd, but you (from the States) are the only person who contacted me
about it.
Also wierd, only one person (again from USA) contacted me about the Whitby
(in U.K.) folk festival in the U.K in two weeks time.
It looks as though there are no other folkies in the U.K. on this list
other than me.
I'm a minority, boo hoo!
:-)
Sorry I could not help, I don't even have a recorder.
