One source of valves was Vito Patierno who passed away a couple years
ago. I think there are other sources but the only two I can verify off
hand are Hohner and John Infande.

F & R Farrell Co. does not sell valves (windsavers) - He receives new
materials to try almost weekly but has not found anything better than
Hohner's so that's what he recommends. He suggests sending Hohner $15 or
$20 and asking for a "box" of valves for a model #270 chromatic. They will
send you a quantity of various sizes. You are at the mercy of the person
who takes your order, you may get a big bag full or just enough to do a
couple harmonicas. (There are 36 valves on a #270 - 48 reeds but the top 3
holes are not valved, the reeds are so small they aren't needed) So if you
don't get a couple hundred valves you got ripped.

John Infande Sells mylar windsavers (valves) at $5.00 per 100 in the last
ad I saw which was in the Fall 1992 SPAH newsletter "Harmonica
Happenings". I have not tried his valves yet but assume mylar would work
pretty well. John also does repair work, sells a tool kit, tools, etc. He
is known for rebuilding chord harmonicas - i.e. cleaning, tuning, new
windsavers and cutting the 4 reed plates into 48 sections, each an
individual chord, and bolting them to the comb. (All for $265.00 - good
deal if you can pick up a used chord for a few hundred buck$). Last I
heard, John was in process of moving so will be out of the repair business
for a couple weeks - Here is his old address.

John Infande; 208 Sailfish Ct.; Barefoot Bay, FL 32965 (407)664-1425

(I'll post his new address when I get it)
                                                                Jack Ely
