[Harp-L] color coding keys

I may be a bit ocd, but what I do is carry my diatonics in a tray (which is the top layer in an old clarinet case). The harps are all given a specific spot IN the tray. And I always immediately return them to their own spot.
Some of my harps have special tunings. And for them I have smiley stickers on them. I can feel these stickers in the dark, so I never seem to get it wrong. Btw I carry chromatics in the bottom of the case. C on far right
and working left a Bb, a G, and an F. Then a repair kit. mic and a cable coiled on top. And extra diatonics because the bottom of the case will hold 7 chromos and I only carry 4.

A picture would explain it all but it suffices to say that the layout of the tray is like this: From the left row of 6 and going up: G, Ab, A, Bb, Bb smo-joe tuned, B. Middle row of 6: C, C smo-joe, Db, Db smo-joe, D, D smo-joe.
Right row of 6: Eb, E, F, F smo-joe, F#hi, G hi. I.o.w. all harps are low tuned to the left and high to the right. I work in low light a lot and I wear glasses. So my eyes aren’t the best. Works for me.

Vern, I think you are absolutely correct in your reasoning. I especially like the idea of a relief key into the surface. Perhaps it can be left colorless and the player can either color code it themselves (with nail polish??) or leave it colorless and "feel" the outline of the letter. Leonard
