I once played my harmonica while wearing my ear protectors to minimize the external sound.  What I heard by "bone conduction" was very weak and muffled…not the sort of sound that would enable me to discern subtle differences.

I suggest that you try the same experiment.

You are correct that reflections occur at the boundaries of different sound impedances.  However, this suppresses acoustical activity and makes it even less likely that audible sounds emit from the comb.
