[Harp-L] How important is it to be able to read music?

Jon Gindick, David Barrett, Dwayne Keyes and several other great harmonica instructors ALL seem to have slightly different TAB notations.   Not sure why, but they do.    However, the notes, dynamic markings, glissandos, chords, etc. appearing on the staff, be it for harmonica, sax, clarinet, piano, etc..... apparently remain the same in ALL musical languages, and ALL the instructors always include, and refer to, both languages (Staff/TAB) in their teachings.   It's CRITICAL to be able to read both, unless you prefer to stay locked in your room, toss out your computer (so you're not tempted to speak to any other musician), close the door so no one can hear you, and unsubscribe from "harp-l" as you won't even know why there's a difference 'tween an A or Bb harp.  That'll work perhaps for you, but not for me.   Leonard

amazing how a little ol' harp can generate large opinions, but that's what forums are for, right?  like everything else, we all like what we like...take the harp as far as you please! lol  you oughta get on a golf or fishing forum!  mercy!
