[Harp-L] Re: Hygienica Harmonica



I just spoke to German Harmonica Museum curator Martin Haeffner. He says the Hygienica was definitely made by Hohner in Trossingen,  probably in the 1930s. They have a couple of examples in the collection. Unfortunately the museum possesses no documentation for this model, it never made it into a catalogue and no promotional flyers or posters have survived.

Apparently this happened quite frequently in those days, they would make small runs of novelty ideas to see if they resonated on the market. If they did, they found their way into the next catalogue. If they didn't, they vanished. Presumably the Hygienica was expensive to make and therefore wasn't continued.
