[Harp-L] Totally bored with the blues genre

Mick, Thanks for your insightful comments. I read that interview with Cannonball and Nat years ago and it had a profound influence on me also. While the blues continues to speak to me with the greatest emotional impact, by the time that interview appeared I had already begun to build a library of music that included blues, jazz, early rock and roll, country, flamenco, and even classical. Today the blues still dominates my music collection of LPs and CDs, but along with Muddy, the Walters, the Kings, the Sonny Boys, T-Bone, Elmore, etc. I also treasure recordings by Charlie Parker, Art Pepper, Sonny Stitt, Dave Brubeck, Gene Ammons, Cannonball, Satchmo, Ahmad Jamal, Mose Allison, and on and on. All this music matters to me. As SBWII once said, Don't Start Me Talkin'. There are a lot of individuals and groups out there today who claim to be playing the blues. It's hard not to get discouraged by the poseurs. But when you hear the real thing, you know it. If we keep listening, we'll find it. And maybe we can even play it.
