Try Boric Acid on a beat up old wheezer soaking in a glass dish for 5-7 mins.
Watch the organic matter foam, fizz and bubble up.

Hydrogen Peroxide also works and after a warm water rinse/shake and dry no bad odor or taste.

I'm sure there is no damage to any Comb material.
