Re: Subject: Re: [Harp-L] Graphite lubricant for slides?Ba

Fine. Then IF the slide is still sticking obviously your cleaning methods
and addition of oil isn't 'working for you' the way you'd like? There's
cleaning--and then there's cleaning the way the pros do it:

If after trying this and your slide is still 'hanging up' there are some
other possibilities. Steve Baker discusses them here(such as possibly
overtightened mouthpiece screws).

Or, as has been discussed often on Slidemeister--you might need to jewel or
gasket the slide to remove burrs). The information is all still
there....Daniel.

These instructional videos from Hohner with Steve Baker narrating should
give anyone everything they could possibly need to fix a sticking
slide--including which miniscule dab of lubricant their pros use. TINY dab is key, as
Mike emphasizes. As Steve also makes clear, overtightening of screws on
both MP and reed plates are notorious for causing problems.

>From 3:24 on is THE most important info about Mouthpiece assemblies but the
earlier info --about also NEVER overtightening Reedplate screws is just as
vital in order not to warp a chromatic body (or diatonic, for that
matter).

PS: Adding oil other than the extremely tiny amount of slide lube shown in
this video - as many of those who won't use anything other than
water/alcohol continue to explain based on their own experiences, creates a magnet
for dust and dirt TO the oil, thus causing even more friction/sticking.
Perhaps that could be one possible reason why you end up needing to disassemble
your MP to clean so often?

I already do clean my slider assembly regularly (every 2 to 3 weeks). If
cleaning alone worked for me I wouldn't be using oil.

Yes agreed Elizabeth ....rinse every time and remove slide occasionally
and clean assembly
is the way.
