[Harp-L] Fw: Shtreiml & Ismail Fencioglu Live (Harmonica and Oud Wizardry)

I just received the message below from Shtreiml, the Montreal-based crew that's doing some very cool work with harmonica (among other things). I strongly recommend checking out the video at least--and stay on it throughout, because the harmonica gets to be pretty damn mind-blowing after a while. See these guys live if you get the chance.

Hi Friends,
Montreal-based Shtreiml featuring Jason Rosenblatt on harmonica has just released its fourth album: Eastern Hora. The recording is an innovative program of music rooted in the Jewish and Ottoman traditions, but brimming with roots-rock sensibilities and dexterous improvisational know-how. It is replete with fleet-fingered oud playing, fiery harmonica brilliance and punchy balkan trombone.
Here is some live video of the group's performance at Maison de la Culture Ahuntsic.

"This is innovative music which refuses to be pigeonholed by simple categorization, from a band that continues to impress."
-Alex Brown. Review of "Eastern Hora." Rootsworld. January 28, 2014

"The music played by the Montreal-based collective can more succinctly be described as Turkish blues. The interplay between Ismail Fencioglu, an oud virtuoso from Istanbul, and harmonica player Jason Rosenblatt, wasn't far removed from the partnership of the legendary Chicago blues duo of Buddy Guy and Junior Wells"
