[Harp-L] Re: Substitute for tweed champ

I bought one of the new Super Champs and love it! It's a 15w tube amp (2 6V6's) with built in effects and amp modeling, and a USB port so you can patch in your own modeling and effects settings. I got mine used for $300.

Just a thought....if you are looking for a Champ like circuitry (5f1),
someone on this list has built a 5f1 circuit from a kit. Have you
considered building your own from a kit? Who was this vender....were they
brothers that split? What I do remember is these guys were top notch
tech/builders and I would like to know who it was myself. Hey Rick, does
this ring a bell for you??

Hey there -- quality stuff! Esp. liked the 60ïs style soul cut.

ï Listening to the rest right now, sounds nice and tight.

My compliments!

Here
is a song I wrote, recorded and played all instruments and vocals. The
horns are from my Korg M1. I added a harp to it to get the bend to make
it sound more "authentic". Of course there is a harp solo. Hope you guys
enjoy it and please feel free to comment.

Also there was one at SPAH this year set up to check out compared to some other amps. I loved the tone.

Barry, while it is not a Champ exactly, you might consider the Mission
Delta Sonic amp. It is 15 watts from two 6V6 tubes through a single
10-inch Lil Buddy speaker in a tweed Harvard cab. It is small and light
but loud enough for most gigging situations. It has a line out for those
times you need PA support. It costs around $900, depending on options.

Here is a video of Nic Clark playing the amp at a jam with no line out:

> What Buck said about Champ circuits is basically true. The circuit changed from the tweed and brown at the start of the blackface era in the mid-60s. It did not change until into '82 I think it was when the Champ was dropped from the line. The circuit is so simple there was really nothing to change. The roughly '81/'82 versions, as I recall, was when Fender went briefly back to the 60s blackface cosmetics so with the exception of one being labled "Champ" and the other "Champ-Amp" they are identical, though the later version is half the price.

I've got a late 80s Champ (with the red knobs), which I now use as a guitar practice amp. Tube subs make it playable as a harp amp but I never really loved the sound. Anything I can do to funk it up?

Folks this seem to be real problem in USA. Hohner won't order them because they
say there isn't enough demand for them but Hohner Germany has them.
Hohner USA says they have to buy them in a large quantity from Hohner Germany to have
them sent over. This seems so strange to me. You can get Special 20 reed plates no problem but
no GM. I don't buy the no demand since Blue Moon harmonicas sold out of their GM plates
fast. So what's a GM player to do with custom combs?

So they are available in Germany eh? I have the capability to bring 20#
(8kg) of parts back in my luggage. Maybe I should bring back GM plates?

I don't think the list would be complete without the 'Zoo.

Kalamazoo Model 1 or Model 2 (only difference is addition of tremolo on the
Model 2). Made in the 60's, five watts, 10" speaker. Great sound. Greg
Heumann of BlowsMeAway Productions will restore and/or modify with three
prong plug and line out for PA that retains the gritty sound:
http://www.blowsmeaway.com/kalamazoo.html.

Here's Greg jamming through one without any added effects:

I love mine!
